Karabakh and Genocide inextricably inter-related

Sargsyan and his cronies have no right to make billions of dollars from the Karabakh conflict and the Turkish Genocide of one and a half million Armenians.

Armenia’s self-imposed President and his recently ‘rewarded for the Nicholas Sarkozy congratulations sham’ Minister of Foreign Affairs have been dashing from one meeting to another, on the one hand securing a secret payment from Azerbaijan for the peaceful return of Karabakh’s seven surrounding territories, and on the other, reaching new heights of betrayal by agreeing to an international commission that could decide there was no Turkish Genocide of one and a half million Armenians. Back in Armenia, Sargsyan and Nalbandian have been explaining their ground-breaking work and the marvelous benefits it will bring to the Republic.

With respect to Genocide, the Diaspora in America has spent many years lobbying for U.S. recognition, and in October 2007 there were positive signs that it was to be approved by the Senate. But yet again U.S. recognition was put on the back-burner by third party politics, this time sensitivities between Turkey, Iraq and Kurdistan. With respect to resolution of the Karabakh conflict, in November 2007 Kocharian repeated his confidence in the Armenian armed forces and assured that Armenia would not capitulate on the issue of Karabakhi independence. At the same time, Sargsyan said that Yerevan has no inclination to establish relationships with Turkey.

But immediately after his 9th April inauguration, Sargsyan introduced his highly-anticipated post election U-turn and since then, with respect to these two strategically important and sensitive issues, the official Sargsyan line has jumped from one incomprehensible position to another.

Happily, the unscrupulous affair of how Armenia’s Karabakhi-led regime has been secretly negotiating a multi-billion dollar compensation for its agreement to a peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict is now opening up in the public domain. But Sargsyan cavorting from one overseas meeting to another trying to persuade Turkey's President to agree to an international commission to decide whether or not the 1915 Turkish Genocide of one and a half million Armenians actually happened is a new initiative of particular concern. Turkey has been trying to persuade Armenia to accept such a commission for several years, and to date Armenia has rejected the idea. Understandably, Sargsyan and Nalbandian have met considerable domestic pressure on this new initiative, so in an attempt to backtrack on their dastardly deeds, their commission was quickly downgraded to the study of a number of important Armenian – Turkish issues, possibly including Genocide.

The Sargsyan/Nalbandian team goes to great lengths to explain that Genocide and Karabakh are two entirely separate issues, and to add a sense of credibility to their deceit they have brought in their ‘Russian Experts’. But irrespective of what Russian experts may say, with respect to this particular string of misinformation Turkey makes its position clear that opening the Turkey/Armenia border is dependent on three factors: 1) recognition of Turkey’s territorial integrity; 2) giving up the false “genocide” claims and; 3) solution of Karabakh problem - liberation of 7 occupied territories and the solution of Nagorno Karabakh problem within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

In practice, Sargsyan is trying to put together a comprehensive betrayal package for Armenia, which will firstly give back the surrounding territories and secondly have Genocide decided in favor of Turkey. In return Armenia's Karabakhi leaders will receive several billions of dollars in compensation, which they intend to keep secret from the rightful recipients, the peoples of Armenia and Karabakh.

There are many details in support of this claim, which follows on from the Karabakh betrayal claim I have been making for the past year. I will add those as comments to this post.

More misinformation on Karabakh?

Bruce Tasker's picture

Following a 1st August meeting of the OSCE Minsk Group in Moscow, PanARMENIAN.Net reported that, according to Matthew Bryza, Karabakh will decide its future by holding a referendum. That was confirmed by a BBC Russian report; although an Inter fax report on the meeting somehow missed this startling news.

On the 2nd August, Azerbaijan’s Trend News reported on an Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev press conference in Baku, when he said “Azerbaijan would not give independence to Nagorno-Karabakh and the conflict can be solved only on the bases of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity”.

On the 4th August APA reports. Khazar Ibrahim lined up the issues on the table as follows: the conflict will be solved stage-by-stage, units of Armenian army will be withdrawn from Azerbaijani territories, all internally displaced people (IDP) of Azerbaijan will return to their native lands and Nagorno Karabakh’s status will be determined within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity only after the communities have normal relations.

This looks like more misinformation put out to smooth the way for the return of the surrounding territories, and interestingly including a report by the BBC?

Also interesting is that Bryza is now talking about stability in the region for normal activity of BTC oil pipeline.

Thanks for that, which I read with interest.

I know there are many fighting for the rights of the Armenian people and Mr. Manukyan is indeed a real hero in the fight for decency, democracy and human rights in Armenia. I probably know him.

I just do not understand your "in Armenian"?

Turkey will not open borders with Armenia

Bruce Tasker's picture

Another confirmation from the Turkish ambassador, that it will not open its border with Armenia, as long as Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is not restored. We are always together with Azerbaijan in this issue

Statement: Azerbaijan’s President and Turkish Prime Minister

Bruce Tasker's picture

20th August in Baku:

Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that Azerbaijan and Turkey had the same position from the standpoint of maintenance of peace in the South Caucasus. “Nagorno Karabagh conflict must be resolved only within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and on the basis of international legal norms.

Minsk Group’s activity has not yielded any results for 16 years and we are very concerned about it. Caucasus Peace and Cooperation Platform can make a contribution to peace in the region”

Armenia at last concedes the truth

Bruce Tasker's picture

/PanARMENIAN.Net quotes independent Turkish political scientist Mehmet Bekaroglu:

Official Ankara have stated repeatedly that the resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and giving up policy calling for international recognition of the genocide can serve as a ground for restoring diplomatic relations with Armenia,” Bekaroglu said, Trend Azeri news agency reports.

Another Smokescreen from PanArmenian

Bruce Tasker's picture

Now Serzh is using his favorite internet news outlet to put up yet another smokescreen regarding his plans to sign the agreement to establish a commission on Genocide, and Karabakh.

PanArmenian reports that "No great expectations should be anticipated from the meetings Armenia-Azerbaijan-Turkey due in New-York" ........... "No great expectations should be anticipated from the meetings due in New-York. After all the UN is not a place to resolve arguments and conflicts; it is just a place where state representatives meet to discuss what they cannot converse over in any other territory".

The lies put out by the Sargsyan regime and its various Ministers, Russian experts and news outlets, can not divert attention from the plain fact that Serzh is rushing ahead with his Genocide Commission with Turkey, and agreement on Karabakh and the surrounding territories is not far round the corner, if not already signed.

There should be absolutely no doubt that Sargsyan is now moving ahead full steam in New York with his "Betrayal" of the people in Armenia.
